Chlamydia
Treatment
Effective Chlamydia
treatment involves a week-long course of specific
antibiotics. When detected early, Chlamydia is completely
treatable. However, if left untreated, it is a serious
condition that can lead to major complications, advanced
infections, and even infertility.
Two
antibiotics on today’s market are known to be quite effective
for Chlamydia treatment, Oflaxacin and Levofloxacin. Both of
these antibiotics are taken orally, usually for a course that
lasts approximately seven days. There is also an option for a
one-day Chlamydia treatment as well, though this is less common
and primarily used for patients that would be unreliable to
take their medications as prescribed.
A third
antiobiotic, Erythromycin, is also known to be an effective
Chlamydia treatment, and is considered far less expensive than
the other antibiotics. A drawback to this medication is the
potential side effect of nausea, which may interfere with a
person’s ability to complete the prescribed
course.
Anyone
that is being treated for Chlamydia should be honest and
forthcoming with any sexual partners, so that they may be
treated as well. Abstaining from sexual activity during
treatment, and for approximately seven days after treatment can
help prevent any further spreading of the disease. Because of
the effective Chlamydia treatments that are available, delaying
treatment is not only unwise, but
unnecessary.
